HEALTH UNIT – OVERVIEW AND SERVICES

Overview

The Health Unit of Nyamasheke District is responsible for promoting the health and well-being of the population through effective planning, coordination, and monitoring of health services. The Unit works closely with health facilities and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of quality, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services aligned with national policies and District priorities.

Services Provided

1. Health Planning and Coordination

  • Identify health needs and priorities across the District.
  • Coordinate integrated planning, budgeting, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health programs at District, Sector, and health facility levels.
  • Promote knowledge management practices within the health sector.

2. Policy Implementation and Strategy Development

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of strategies that localize national health policies and District Council decisions.
  • Ensure collaboration among stakeholders in the health sector. 

3. Health Promotion and Awareness

  • Coordinate the dissemination and implementation of national health guidelines and protocols across health facilities.
  • Organize awareness campaigns on community health, including the importance of community-based health insurance schemes. 

4. Data Management and Capacity Building

  • Maintain an updated and consolidated database of health programs and interventions within the District.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resource Unit to identify capacity gaps and implement training and capacity-building initiatives for health personnel. 

5. Advisory and Coordination Services

  • Provide strategic advice to District leadership on health-related matters.
  • Participate in the District Technical Coordination Committee and contribute to coordinated decision-making.
